M-Quality Expo is next week
The University will celebrate National Quality Month with its third annual M-Quality Expo 9 a.m.-7 p.m. Oct. 17 and 9 a.m.-3 p.m. Oct. 18 at the Michigan Union.
Featuring dozens of exhibits and presentations by campus units, the free, public Expo will showcase the University’s approach to Total Quality Management (TQM). Several TQM tools and strategies also will be discussed in clinics on self-directed work teams, effective meetings, high-impact training, value-centered management, and quality indicators and measurement techniques.
In addition, William Bridges, author of Managing Transitions: Making the Most of Change and Job Shift: How to Prosper in a Workplace without Jobs, will speak on how to succeed in the “new world of work” in a keynote address 9-10 a.m. Oct. 18 in the Michigan Union’s Pendleton Room.
The Expo, with its theme “Quality in Daily Activities,” will highlight four principles of TQM: pursuing continuous improvement, respecting people and ideas, satisfying those we serve, and managing by fact.
“M-Quality is one of the most significant approaches to positive change within the University over the past several years,” says Robert B. Holmes, director of human resource development. “The Expo is a wonderful occasion for people to see the creative work being done to foster improvement and innovation within the University.”
Provost J. Bernard Machen and Executive Vice President and Chief Financial Officer Farris W. Womack request that staff members be given release time to attend the Expo.
