Joel Seguine, manager of WUOM, the U-M‘s public radio station, will take on a new role as project coordinator in the Office of University Relations. The appointment, announced in mid-August by Vice President for University Relations Walter Harrison, was effective Sept. 1.
In his new position, Seguine will direct a number of projects and new initiatives that “do not fall neatly into the functional units that currently exist within University Relations,” Harrison said. “There are several projects that I‘m eager to see get off the ground, and I think Joel has the energy and enthusiasm to make these projects successful.”
Lewis Morrissey, to whom the station reports, will work with the senior managers until a successor to Seguine is appointed. That search is to be launched this week, with the position carrying the title “director of broadcasting.”
Morrissey, who is director of special projects in the Office of University Relations and the University‘s freedom of information officer, says the different title reflects the additional responsibility of the individual serving as a consultant to U-M-Flint Chancellor Charlie Nelms with respect to the U-M‘s public television station, WFUM-TV28.
Morrissey will direct the search, which he and Harrison hope will be completed in two to three months.
Seguine joined the station as its manager in 1985. Prior to that he served as manager of WHRO, the Norfolk, Va., public radio station, for eight years.
“I am deeply grateful for the decade of leadership Joel has given to Michigan Radio,” Harrison said. “Under his leadership, it has become a more lively and interesting station. He also has kept the station running on an even keel during some very difficult times financially and has helped to build a strong and loyal audience.”
Seguine also has held on-air and production jobs at commercial and public stations in Nashville, Tenn., and San Francisco, and a management position at the public radio station at Southern Illinois University in Carbondale. He graduated from Bucknell University with a major in English, did graduate work in English and American literature at Middle Tennessee State University and attended Vanderbilt Law School.
