“Puentes is excited about its upcoming Latine Research Week, an interdisciplinary, conference-style series of events that we host annually on campus to uplift research being conducted by Latine staff, faculty and students, as well as research relevant to Latine populations,” said Victoria Vezaldenos, co-president of the Latine student group Puentes.

The theme of LRW 2025 is “Raíces y Presencia: Growing a Legacy Together.” “Raíces,” which means roots in Spanish, refers to the ancestral and cultural foundations shaping Latine scholars today, while “presencia” underscores the influential role Puentes and the Latine community play in academia.

Building on the success of previous years, LRW will feature 19 sessions with more than 90 presenters and is expected to welcome upwards of 850 participants. In recent years, the event has showcased nearly 200 scholars from about 50 academic departments.

Throughout the week, LRW will challenge traditional academic conference norms by incorporating cultural narratives and celebrating collective achievements. Attendees will have the opportunity to engage with interdisciplinary presentations that span the social sciences, humanities and STEM fields, all viewed through the lens of Latine culture and history.

“Puentes seeks to intentionally honor these cultural raíces and foundations in all of our programming, but especially during Latine Research Week,” said Viviana M. Vélez Negrón, co-president.

For Latine students, LRW provides a platform to present their work and to connect with a network of scholars who will help support their academic journey.

The event aims to be a space where presence and influence speak volumes, ensuring that Latine voices and experiences are celebrated and amplified across disciplines, Vezaldenos said.
