Bauld elected fellow of American Institute for Medical and Biological Engineering
Thomas J. Bauld, manager of the Department of Biomedical Engineering’s Facilities Services Division, has been elected to the College of Fellows of the American Institute for Medical and Biological Engineering (AIMBE). Bauld was recognized for “exceptional leadership in the field of clinical engineering and for dedicated service to his peers, colleagues and students through local and national professional organizations and educational programs.”

His induction will take place in March at the National Academy of Sciences in Washington, D.C., during the AIMBE’s annual meeting.

Pek receives award from Turkish government
Sumer Belbez Pek, professor of internal medicine and chair of the Medical School Institutional Review Board for Human Subject Research, has received a Scientific Achievement Award from the National Science and Technology Research Council of Turkey. The award is the highest honor the government of the Turkish Republic can bestow upon a Turkish scientist. Pek was chosen in acknowledgment of his “scientific contributions on the international level in the areas of diabetes, insulin secretion, and physiology of the alpha-cells and beta-cells of the pancreatic islets.”
