Hensinger to head AAOS
Robert N. Hensinger, professor of surgery and chief, Division of Pediatric Orthopedics, has been named president of the American Academy of Orthopedic Surgeons. The Academy provides educational programs for orthopedic surgeons and allied health professionals.
Canham wins Rice Award
Donald B. Canham, director of athletics for more than 20 years, has received the Homer C. Rice Division I-A Athletics Directors Award. The award, named for Georgia Tech athletic director Homer Rice, is presented annually to “a past or present Division I-A director of athletics or conference commissioner who has contributed exemplary service to intercollegiate athletics in general and Division I-A concerns in particular.”
Green heads American Lung
Association of Michigan
Robert A. Green, professor of internal medicine, has been elected president of the new American Lung Association of Michigan. Green is a leading authority on tuberculosis and a past recipient of the Michigan Thoracic Society’s most prestigious award, its Bruce Douglas Award.
Robertson receives clinical research award
John M. Robertson, associate professor of radiation oncology and a member of the U-M Comprehensive Cancer Center, is one of five physicians nationwide to receive the Clinical Research Career Development award. The three-year grant from the American Society of Clinical Oncology, sponsored by the Bristol-Myers Oncology Division, will fund research on the use of radiosensitizers for the treatment of cancer.
Blum’s book cited
Between Feminism and Labor: The Significance of the Comparable Worth Movement, by Linda M. Blum, has received an honorable mention for the C. Wright Mills Book Award for books published in 1991. Blum is an assistant professor of sociology and of women’s studies. The award committee noted that Blum’s “scholarship has made an important contribution to the study of social problems.”
