Three faculty honored for AIDS research
Researchers John A. Jacquez, professor emeritus of physiology and of biostatics; James S. Koopman, professor of epidemiology; Carl P. Simon, professor of economics, mathematics and public policy; along with Ira Longini of Emory University have received the Howard M. Temin Award in Epidemiology for Scientific Excellence in the Fight Against HIV/AIDS.
Kammash is editor and co-author
Fusion Energy in Space Propulsion, edited and co-authored by Terry Kammash, the Stephen S. Attwood Professor of Engineering, has been published by the American Institute of Aeronautics and Astronautics under their series on “Progress in Astronautics and Aeronautics.” The first of its kind on the subject, the book addresses the use of energy from controlled fusion reactions in a propulsion engine that could potentially open up the solar system and beyond to human exploration.
Luskin elected secretary/treasurer of IREM
Eric D. Luskin, director, family housing, was elected secretary/treasurer for 1996 of the Michigan Chapter of the Institute of Real Estate Management (IREM). The local chapter consists of several hundred real estate professionals in Southeastern Michigan who have earned the designation Certified Proprerty Manager. IREM, part of the National Association of Realtors, is an association of more than 9,400 persons engaged in the fields of property and asset management, and who have met stringent requirements in the areas of education, experience and commitment to a code of ethics.
Seyferth named to board of Commerce Bank
Fritz Seyferth, associate director for athletics, has been named to the board of directors for Ann Arbor Commerce Bank.
Garvin elected, appointed
Charles D. Garvin, professor of social work, has recently been elected chair of the Group for the Advancement of Doctoral Education in Social Work and also has been appointed to the Board of the Institute for the Advancement of Social Work Research.
Friedman is president-elect
Candace Friedman, Manager of Infection Control Services, is president-elect of the Association for Professionals in Infection Control and Epidemiology (APIC). APIC is a multidisciplinary, international organization of more than 11,000 professionals dedicated to improving the quality of health care through the practice and management of infection control and the application of epidemiology.
McKeachie receives honorary degree
Wilbert J. McKeachie, professor emeritus of psychology, recently gave the opening Convocation address and received an honorary degree from Alma College.
Fox receives grant
David A. Fox, associate professor of internal medicine, has received a $24,000 grant from the Lupus Foundation of America Inc.
