Ward-Ney recognized for design work

Janis Ward-Ney, senior graphic artist in the Office of University Relations,

U-M-Dearborn, received a Gold Medal from the Detroit Club of Printing House Craftsmen for her design of the 1994 Report of Giving, an annual Office of Development publication that reports on fund-raising activities and lists Dearborn contributors.

Parsons receives mentoring award

Marilee Benore Parsons, assistant professor of biology and biochemistry,

U-M-Dearborn, received the mentoring award from the Association for Women in Science’s Detroit area chapter. Parsons was selected for her dedication in encouraging and supporting young women in science.

Marcelo appointed to NIH council

Cynthia L. Marcelo, associate research scientist in the Department of surgery, has been appointed by Donna Shalala, secretary of Health and Human Services, to a three-year term on the National Arthritis and Musculoskeletal and Skin Diseases Advisory Council of the National Institutes of Health. The council advises and makes recommendations to the secretary on matters and policies related to the activities carried out by and through the Institute.

Fearon appointed to gene therapy panel

Eric R. Fearon, associate director for basic research at the Comprehensive Cancer Center and the Maisel Professor of Oncology, has been appointed to a 14-member panel to study the national Institutes of Health’s investment in gene therapy research.
