Brian J. Klatt has been named associate director of the Matthaei Botanical Gardens. He comes to the U-M from Rust Environment and Infrastructure, a national environmental consulting and engineering firm in Sheboygan, Wis., where he was senior consultant and department manager.

In his new post, Klatt will oversee management of day-to-day operations, staffing, finances, implementation of future Gardens development and growth, and will work with the Friends of the Matthaei Botanical Gardens Board of Directors.

“The Gardens are fortunate to have many positive attributes, not the least of which is a highly gifted staff, dedicated volunteer organization, and a variety of natural features and active public programs,” Klatt says. “I am anxious to help lead the continued development of the Gardens into a truly regional, cultural and educational resource for the people of southeastern Michigan.”

Klatt holds a B.S. in zoology from the U-M, and a master‘s and Ph.D. in biology from Northern Illinois University.
