It’s that time again. Move-In is Aug. 30–Sept. 2

The University Record, August 16, 1999 By Rebecca A. Doyle

Approximately 9,500 students with refrigerators, microwave ovens, computers, lofts and books, many with parents and siblings also, are expected to descend on the Ann Arbor campus Aug. 30–Sept. 2.

Fall Move-In will officially arrive Aug. 30, when first-year and transfer students will begin to move in to Markley Residence Hall’s Little, Reeves and Scott Houses. On Aug. 31, first-year and transfer students move in to Alice Lloyd’s Angell and Hinsdale houses; Elliott, Frost and VanTyne houses in Markley; Newberry, South Quad, Stockwell, Baits, Bursley, Cambridge Houses, Martha Cook, East Quad, Fletcher, Henderson House and Oxford Housing. Sept. 1 is Move-In day for first year students and transfer students living in Betsey Barbour, Couzens, Alice Lloyd, Markley, Mosher-Jordan and West Quad.

All other students move in Sept. 2.

U-M parents and students will again receive a 30-minute loading/unloading parking permit that allows them to unload near the residence hall. Cars without the permit will be ticketed, cautions Dana Fair, Housing student services associate.

During the Move-In days, faculty and staff are encouraged to travel to work before 9 a.m. and to leave 4–6 p.m., when streets should be less congested.

Traffic patterns have been changed to make the process flow more smoothly and minimize congestion in the affected areas.

Streets listed will have traffic-flow changes during Move-In. Please refer to the map for specific changes.
