The U-M Information Technology Policy Committee will hold a public comment session 4:30–5:30 p.m. Wednesday (March 17) in the West Conference Room, fourth floor, Rackham Building, to gather ideas regarding current and needed policy in support of the U-M’s electronic community.
All interested faculty, staff and students are invited to share their comments with the committee, which has been asked by Provost Gilbert R. Whitaker Jr. to consider:
—The role of conferencing in research, teaching and social activities of the University;
—Current policies governing information technology services provided by the Information Technology Division (ITD) and other service units and ways to communicate and enforce policies.
—Computer access to materials that may be illegal or may violate individual and community standards of expression and the funding of such access.
—Security and privacy of electronic communication, implementation of appropriate policies and practices by University units supporting such communication, and adequacy of information to the community regarding security and privacy of computer-assisted communications.
—Management policies and/or procedures within ITD with regard to staff access to and use of information technology resources, adequacy of policies and administration relative to access to computer resources.
—Relationships with external service providers and consultants that support ITD’s activities in this area.
