Fleming will sign copies
of his new book
Former President Robben Fleming will sign copies of his new book Tempests into Rainbows at 7:30 p.m. June 10 in Border’s Books in Ann Arbor. The book explores the turbulent years on campus during the Vietnam War.
U.S. Mail will be delivered
later in the day
Incoming U.S. mail will be delivered later to University buildings effective May 20. The Ann Arbor Post Office has notified Mail Service that mail carriers will begin their routes one hour later, at 8 a.m. This is the second change in starting times for carriers announced by the Postal Service. Earlier this year, the carriers’ starting time shifted from 6 a.m. to 7 a.m. As a result, incoming U.S. mail may be delivered up to two hours later than it was just a month ago. Parking Services
will be closed June 7
Parking Services will be closed all day June 7 for an in-service program. Regular hours (7:30 a.m.–4:30 p.m.) will resume June 10.
Conference on politics and ethics will be held June 6
Michael Lerner, editor of Tikkun magazine, will be the keynote speaker at the Conference on Politics, Ethics and Meaning 1–10 p.m. June 6 in the Morris Lawrence Building at Washtenaw Community College. This conference is a follow-up to a national conference on Ethics in Meaning held last April. Workshop topics include race relations, democracy in a university, and conflict and negotiation. U-M-Flint seeks artists
The U-M-Flint Fine Art Gallery is calling for artists to show during its 1996–97 season. Clark’s photographs on display at CAAS gallery
The Center for Afroamerican and African Studies (CAAS) presents an exhibition of works by Lane Clark, the International Institute’s artist-in-residence, through May 29 at the CAAS Gallery. “Posed or Possessed: Various Personae of Akan Akomfo in Ghana” displays a series of photographs depicting priestesses of Akan traditional religion taken during two years of recent field experience in the Kwawu area of Ghana. Adult Cancer Survivors Day
is June 2
The Comprehensive Cancer Center will host its second annual Adult Cancer Survivors Day 2–4:30 p.m. June 2 in the Dow Audito rium, Towsley Center. Cancer survivors from communities throughout Michigan will gather with family, friends and health care professionals to celebrate life, add messages to the Tree of Hope, listen to speakers, and enjoy entertainment, refreshments and tours of the new Cancer Center building. “American Photographs”
on display at Museum of Art
The Museum of Art presents “American Photographs,” an exhibition drawn from the Museum’s permanent collection that examines the rich diversity of American photography through different types of works. Ranging from 19th-century landscapes to contemporary portraits and genre scenes, the 82 works on view include Alfred Stieglitz, Paul Strand, Ansel Adams and George Tice. Van drivers must take
training course
Beginning October 1, drivers of the University’s 15-passenger vans will be required to have completed a driver’s training program. The University will offer the training 3–5 p.m. Mondays through the summer if at least 10 people enroll in the class. Courses also can be arranged for entire departments. Workshop to focus on preventing work-related injuries
Would you like to learn more about avoiding work-related injuries and improving your office set-up? Free prostate screenings

The Prostate Program and Comprehensive Cancer Center are offering free prostate cancer screenings to all men age 50 and older and men ages 40 and older who are African American or have a family history of prostate cancer. U-M-Flint will hold carpal tunnel syndrome workshop
The U-M-Flint Physical Therapy Laboratory for Cumulative Trauma Disorders will conduct a workshop on carpal tunnel syndrome (CTS) 8:30 a.m.–5 p.m. Wed. The Center for the Education of Women (CEW) is offering “Career Decision Making for Today’s Woman” 9 a.m.–5 p.m. June 24 at the CEW. The workshop will provide working women with the skills and resources they need to answer the increasingly difficult challenges of employment in today’s world and in the future. The workshop will focus on identifying individual skills and interests, will provide an overview of resources available for job searches and career planning, and includes an introduction to career informa tion on the WorldWide Web. Leadership workshop for women to be held June 25–26
A two-day workshop, “Leadership for Today’s Woman,” will be held 9 a.m.–5 p.m. June 25–26 at the Center for the Education of Women. The program will help women to understand the dynamics of leadership and help build leadership skills. Retired, current staff invited to reception for Duderstadts
Staff from all three U-M campuses, including retirees, are invited to a reception honoring President James J. and Anne M. Duder stadt 3–5 p.m. May 30 at Schembechler Hall.
The Business and Finance Diversity Choir will perform throughout the afternoon. Guests also will have an opportunity to browse through Schembechler Hall and the Margaret Dow Towsley Sports Museum. The program, featuring special presentations by staff members, begins at 4 p.m.
The party is being planned by a committee of staff members chaired by Paul Spradlin, interim associate vice president for business operations, and Jackie R. McClain, executive director of human resources and affirmative action.
