Hass, Boland, Barrett to read in Visiting Writers Series this month

Authors Robert Hass, Eavan Boland and Andrea Barrett will present their works in the free, public Visiting Writers Series during February.

Sponsored by the Department of English and Borders Books and Music, the series features more than two dozen writers throughout the academic year.

The February readings, held at Rackham Amphitheater, include:

Feb. 2 (5 p.m.): Robert Hass, the primary translator of the poetry of Nobel laureate Czeslaw Milosz, has written several books of poetry, including Human Wishes, Praise and Field Guide.

Feb. 9 (7:30 p.m.): Irish poet Eavan Boland has published eight volumes of poetry, including In a Time of Violence, published last year. A prose volume will be released next month. Her reading is co-sponsored by the Women’s Studies Program, International Institute, Office of the Vice President for Research and Horace H. Rackam School of Graduate Studies.

Feb. 16 (5 p.m.): Andrea Barrett is author of the novels Lucid Stars, Secret Harmonies and The Middle Kingdom. A collection, Ship Fever & Other Stories, is forthcoming.
