In conjunction with the International Institute and the Korean Studies Program, the Museum of Art will host the 1995 Korean Cultural Program with two events on Wednesday (Oct. 11).

Initiated by the Korea Foundation and the Asian Art Museum of San Francisco in 1990, the Korean Culture Program combines performances and lectures to introduce American and European Audiences to the culture of Korea. This year’s tour, organized by the Korea Society, includes stops at the Kennedy Center, the Metropolitan Museum of Art and the Cleveland Art Museum.

Traditional music and art enjoy great prestige in Korea and, thanks partly to the Korean Culture Program’s promotional efforts, interest in the classical arts of Korea has been growing in the United States.

“Glimpses of Korea” includes two free events:

Prof. Song-mi Yi of the Academy of Korean Studies in Seoul will lecture on “Korean Landscape Painting, Past and Present” at 4 p.m. in Aud. B, Angell Hall. A reception will follow at the Museum of Art.

Traditional music and dance of Korea will be performed at 7 p.m. in the Museum of Art Apse. Performers include instrumentalists Jang-hyun Won and Se-hyun Han, dancer Yu-lim Jin and vocalist Saeng-kil Lee.
