The Men’s Glee Club, under the direction of Jerry Blackstone, will perform a benefit concert at 8 p.m. Feb. 29 at the Detroit Symphony Orchestra Hall to raise funds for its spring concert tour of South America.

Brian Grant, Glee Club publicity manager, notes that the concert “is a rare and important opportunity for a collegiate male chorus,” and the group’s first tour in South America.

During the four-week trip, the club will perform 14 concerts in Brazil, Argentina, Uruguay, Chile and Peru.

At the concert, the Club will perform a variety of music, including classical works, spirituals, folk songs, contemporary works and, of course, U-M songs.

The Friars, an octet of the group, will perform several popular tunes with their unique brand of humor and showmanship.

The concert is sponsored by the Alumni Association in conjunction with the Alumni and Alumnae Clubs of Detroit, Ann Arbor, Dearborn, Downriver, Birminghan, Northville and Macomb County.

Tickets—$20 for main floor and balcony, $50&endash;$100 for patrons—are available from the Detroit Symphony Orchestra Hall box office, 833-3700. The tax-deductible patron tickets include preferential main floor seating and acknowledgment in the commemorative program.
