Get ready for the art fairs

The tranquil days of an Ann Arbor summer are about to come to a temporary end. An expected half-million art-lovers will flood the avenues of Ann Arbor for the Ann Arbor Art Fairs July 19-22.
Transportation Services and Parking Services have taken several steps to assure that faculty and staff can commute to work with little disruption by the fairs.
Commuter buses will be rerouted to avoid congestion on Central Campus. Beginning at 6:405 a.m., commuter buses will leave Crisler Arena every 15 minutes. The last run will be at 6:15 p.m. from the Kresge Medical Research Building.
Buses leaving Crisler will stop at the Administrative Services building, take South Division to Huron, stopping at the corner of Jefferson and Division, take Huron to Fletcher and then follow the usual route to the Medical Center.
Returning from the Medical Center, buses will travel down Washtenaw to Hill. Busses will stop at the commuter stop near the C.C. Little Building, at Hill and Tappan, at Hill and State, at the Intramural Sports Building on Hoover and at the Administrative Services Building.
Signs directing passengers to temporary stops will be posted by the Intramural Sports Building, Michigan Union and Shapiro Library.
The AATA Bus #36, U-M Shuttle, which serves Wolverine Tower and the State Street commuter parking, will follow its regular route traveling north on South State Street, turning right on Hill, left on Tappan, left on Monroe and left on South State to return to Wolverine Tower.
On-campus parking areas will be staffed to ensure that only permit holders are parking in staff-paid permit lots. Guest parking is available for $5 after 3 p.m. Wednesday, Thursday and Friday and all day Saturday.
As in the past, the University will be actively involved in the Art Fair festivities. The Museum of Art is offering an “Adventure Tour” to those who stop in the Museum. Visitors may pick up a map at the Museum entrance for a self-guided tour of the Museum’s varied exhibits.
WUOM will broadcast from outside of the LS&A Bldg. each day 9 a.m.-5 p.m. The station will conduct interviews and broadcast live music.
The Michigan Union will again be the site of the Food Court. More than 30 different booths with a wide variety of foods will be available. Of course, the MUG, the food court located on the bottom floor, will still be open for those looking for a respite from the heat.
Fair hours are 9 a.m.-9 p.m. Wednesday-Friday and 9 a.m.-5 p.m. Saturday.
