GEO, University call for mediation

Members of the Graduate Employees Organization (GEO) and University negotiators have agreed to submit their differences for mediation by the Michigan Employment Relations Commission. No date has yet been set for mediation talks.

Although both sides felt they had come close to reaching an agreement, the contract expired March 15 without a pact.

GEO represents more than 1,800 graduate student teaching, research and staff assistants, who last week protested the lack of a settlement by holding classes in hallways, a “grade-in”—teaching assistants graded papers in front of Cafe Fino and the Fishbowl (Angell Hall computing site), and a rally and dance on the Diag.
