Flower Show features ‘An American Garden’
From the seaside at Martha’s Vineyard to the sunny California hills, the eighth annual Ann Arbor Flower and Garden Show, sponsored by the Matthaei Botanical Gardens, will celebrate gardening in America.
“An American Bouquet” April 3-6 includes new flower introductions and garden themes adapted to the seasons and climate with vibrant cultivars of sedum, daylilies, and black-eyed Susan, multicolored swaths of ornamental grasses that blend texture, scent, and color to create a garden of interest and seasonal change while promoting low maintenance. This year’s feature garden, “The New American Garden” has been inspired by the work of American architect Frank Lloyd Wright, the “dean” of American landscape architecture Jens Jensen, and 20th-century landscape designers Wolfgang Oehme and James van Sweden. The garden will incorporate native flowers, ornamental grasses, brilliant perennials, rock outcroppings, ferns, meadow flowers planted in drifts, colorful perennials and delicate ground covers.
Held at the Washtenaw Farm Council Grounds, the show will be open 9 a.m.-9 p.m. April 3-5 and 9 a.m.-5 p.m. April 6. Advance tickets for adults are $8 and are available at all Michigan Kroger stores through April 2. Senior citizens will receive $1 discount on tickets purchased at the door April 3- 4.
