If you’re tired of playing hide and seek to get the data you need, “InfoQuest: Expanding your Information Horizons” may end your search—or at least start you in the right direction. The free, day-long information fair, 9 a.m.–3 p.m. April 20 in the Vandenberg Room, Michigan League, will demonstrate computerized information retrieval techniques and services available for faculty, students and staff.
Demonstration areas include campus “gophers,” the Institutional File System (IFS), resources on the Internet and how to get to them, the X.500 directory service, reading USENET news on campus, and how to reach genetics databases via the Internet.
In addition to the demonstrations, seating for up to 50 persons is available at the Solution Station—a series of mini-courses that will be held hourly begining at 9 a.m. The 45-minute courses will cover topics that parallel the demonstrations—exploring the Internet, introduction to “gophers,” using bulletin board systems and collaborating with colleagues at other universities.
InfoQuest is open to anyone interested in learning more about getting information from electronic sources both inside and outside the University.
The fair is sponsored by the Information Technology Division, Apple Computers, IBM and Borders Book Shop.
