Faculty to meet with legislators

Senate Assembly is hosting a first-of-its-kind Faculty Town Meeting with the three Ann Arbor legislators. After the close of the May 15 Senate Assembly business meeting, anticipated to be around 4:30 p.m., a panel consisting of Sen. Alma Wheeler-Smith, D-Salem; Rep. Liz Brater, D-Ann Arbor; and Rep. Mary Schroer, D-Ann Arbor, will be convened. The public town meeting will take place in the Rackham Amphitheater, on the fourth floor, Rackham Building.

“The purpose of the meeting,” says Assembly Chair George Brewer, “is to begin a more comprehensive dialogue between our representatives and the faculty. The faculty believe they can contribute to educating the legislature and the public as to the importance of the University of Michigan as a state resource. The faculty wish to hear the legislators’ opinions about how the interaction of the University with the legislature can be improved.”

After a brief presentation from each of the three panelists, a question-and-answer period will occur during which any member of the audience is invited to ask a question.

The formal part of the meeting will be followed by an informal reception, where members of the audience can mingle with the panelists and communicate with them on an individual basis.

Faculty, staff, students and the general public are invited.
