East Ann Arbor Health Center designed with patient in mind
The new East Ann Arbor Health Center has parking for 300 patients, 23 doctors and 113 staff members to take care of patients’ needs. The facility opened in August and will hold an open house Oct. 22.

The Medical Center’s new East Ann Arbor Health Center opened its doors Aug. 26 with a patient-centered mission, according to the facility’s medical director Sonya Mitrovich-Lozowski.
“We designed this building with the patient in mind,” she says. “Patient areas are easy to access, and there is plenty of free parking close to the main entrance. We have appointments available as early as 7 a.m. and as late as 7:30 p.m. during the week, and we’re open every Saturday throughout the year. In addition, providers with varied expertise are available so we can meet the needs of lots of patients.”
The 60,000-square-foot facility, located at 4260 Plymouth Road, offers a full range of patient services, including internal medicine, pediatrics, family practice, adult medicine, pediatrics, and obstetrics and gynecology. The center also houses laboratory and imaging services, social work and nutrition counseling. An on-site pharmacy is scheduled to open this fall, and mammography will be available in early 1997.
Mitrovich-Lozowski says that patients will immediately notice many features designed to improve their visit to the center. “We have streamlined patient registration—our goal is that patients will be seen within 10 minutes of their scheduled appointment time,” she says. “Patients can call ahead from home to complete necessary paperwork so it does not have to be done in the office.”
Other features created with patients in mind include more than 300 free parking spaces, weight scales and blood pressure machines inside each exam room instead of in hallways, a play area for children, and a health education resource library that is staffed full-time. Community outreach activities include Lamaze classes and workshops on healthful cooking.
The center will be home to 23 doctors and a total of 113 staff members.
The opening of the center marks the elimination of three primary care sites: the Northeast Ann Arbor Health Center, the Pediatric Primary Care Practice at the Taubman Center and the Golfside Road office of Steven Manikas. All have been incorporated into the new facility.
An open house at the new facility will be held 5-8 p.m. Oct. 22.
