The University of Michigan Comprehensive Depression Center is accepting nominations for the first-ever Frances and Kenneth Eisenberg Scholar Award for early career U-M faculty members or fellows. The deadline is Jan. 23.
The award will be given annually and is worth $100,000, which will be given in two installments over two years. It is part of a $10.75 million gift given to the Depression Center by U-M alumni Frances and Kenneth Eisenberg in October.
A broad range of research themes will be considered for this award, including: clinical, basic, translational, computational, and health services scientific approaches. The research must have the potential to impact the understanding and treatment of depression, bipolar illness or related disorders.
“We are looking for an early career faculty member or fellow who has begun to compile an outstanding academic track record and who has a passionate interest in a research career that advances knowledge in the understanding of mechanisms and treatments in depressions, bipolar illnesses, or related disorders,” said Dr. John Greden, executive director of the Depression Center.
“We are looking for someone enthusiastic about addressing the complex challenges that the field of mental health faces today, and who is dedicated to improving our understanding of brain health.”
The nominee must be a U-M assistant professor, lecturer, research fellow, research investigator, assistant research scientist, or research assistant professor. Their primary appointments may be in any academic unit at U-M.
For a nomination to be considered, the following items must be submitted: a one- to two-page statement summarizing the applicant’s proposed research and its impact on future care of depression, bipolar, and related disorders; a budget estimate; and curriculum vita of the nominee.
Nominees must be members of Depression Center, and should be a member before the submission deadline, Jan. 23.
