Departments announce holiday closings

‘Tis the season for vacation! No matter what winter occasion you celebrate, every staff member looks forward to at least a day or two of deserved holiday break. That means, of course, that many University services are unavailable or limited. Here’s a list of departments that will be closing offices or reducing hours for the holidays.

The Clements Library will be closed on Dec. 19 for staff enrichment. It will close for the holidays at 3 p.m. Dec. 24 and will reopen at 9 a.m. Jan. 5. Special arrangements can be made with staff for visitation during the holiday closing.

DRDA will close at 5 p.m. Dec. 24 and reopen at 8 a.m. Jan. 2. Faculty, research staff and others who plan to process materials through DRDA on Dec. 24 and Jan. 2 are reminded that only limited staff may be available and that arrangements should be made with the appropriate project representative well in advance to ensure sufficient time for handling deadline materials.

Hospital Purchasing Services will close Dec. 25 and Jan. 1. A limited number of staff will be available on all other days for emergency requirements. For more information, call 764-9200.

Information Technology Division (ITD)

U-M Switchboard (Networking Services) will close at noon Dec. 24 and remain closed Dec. 25. The office will be open from 8 a.m.-5 p.m. Dec. 26-30, and will close again at noon Dec. 31 and remain closed on Jan. 1. Regular hours will resume 8 a.m. Jan. 2.

Residential Service Center will be closed from noon Dec. 24 until 9 a.m. Jan. 2. Emergency telephone and data networking repair requests can be called in to 647-8888.

ITD Accounts Office will close at noon Dec. 24 and re-open at 8 a.m. Jan. 5. E-mail will be checked once per day Dec. 26, and 29-31.

U-M Computer Showcase will close at 5 p.m. Dec. 23 and re-open at 10 a.m. Jan. 5.

764-HELP line will close at noon Dec. 24 and remain closed Dec. 25. It will be available from 1-5 p.m. Dec. 26, 29 and 30; 8 a.m.-noon Dec. 31; and 1-5 p.m. Jan. 5. Regular hours will resume Jan. 5.

Administrative Hotline (763-0107) will close at noon Dec. 24 and reopen at 8 a.m. Jan. 5.

DSC Network Services Operations (763-4000) will be closed Dec. 25 and Jan. 1, and open 8 a.m.-4 p.m. Dec. 26-31. Regular hours will resume at 8 a.m. Jan. 2.

Instructional Technology Lab will be closed Dec. 25-Jan. 2. It will be open by card-key access only Dec. 22-24 and Jan. 2. Regular hours resume Jan. 5.

Most ITD Campus Computing Sites will begin reduced hours Dec. 20. Hours for card-key sites are dependent on building hours during the holiday week. For more information, call 64-SITES or access the Web at http://www.umich.edu/~sites.

The Lawyers Club residence hall will be closed 5 p.m. Dec. 20 and will re-open at 8 a.m. Jan. 10. The Lawyers Club office will close at noon on Dec. 24 and reopen at 8 a.m. Jan. 5.

M-Stores Computer Procurement will close at 3 p.m. Dec. 24 and reopen at 7:30 a.m. Jan. 5.

M-Stores Food Procurement will close at 3 p.m. Dec. 24; open 7:30 a.m.-11:30 Dec. 26, 29, 30-31; and reopen with regular hours at 7:30 p.m. Jan. 2.

M-Stores General Supplies Procurement will close at 5 p.m. Dec. 23 and reopen at 7:30 a.m. Jan. 5. Departments planning to remain open during the holidays are reminded to place orders by Dec. 22. During the break, emergency-only orders may be placed by calling Food Stores, 998-7068.

MWorks Occupational Health Clinic, 2098 S. Main St., will close Dec. 24 for the holiday break and reopen Jan. 5. Those with injuries requiring treatment during the holiday should call the Emergency Room at University Hospital.

The School of Natural Resources and Environment will be closed from 5 p.m. Dec. 24 until 7 a.m. Jan. 5 with minimum coverage on Jan. 2.

News and Information Services, including The University Record offices, will close at noon Dec. 24 and reopen at 8 a.m. Jan. 5.

The Department of Occupational Safety and Environmental Health (OSEH) will be closed for a portion of the University’s holiday season, and there will be minimal staff available for services during normal working hours Dec. 22-24.

Hazardous materials staff will conduct radioactive and chemical waste collections as usual through Dec. 24. Only radioactive waste will be picked up on Jan. 2 if requested before 11 a.m. that day. Routine radioactive and chemical waste pickups will resume the week of Jan. 5. If you require special arrangements, call 763-4568 by Dec. 19.

Staff working with radioactive or chemical compounds during the holidays should have a sufficient supply of container/drums and other waste handling materials to accommodate the workload. Laboratories are encouraged to call OSEH prior to the holidays to procure the appropriate amount of supplies.

Approval for radioactive material orders must be obtained prior to Dec. 22. Radiation safety staff will continue radioactive material package deliveries Dec. 26-31 and Jan. 2.

OSEH will close at 4:30 p.m. Dec. 24 and will reopen at 7:30 a.m. Jan. 5. During the OSEH holiday closure, staff will respond to emergencies. All requests for emergency services should be directed to the Department of Public Safety at 763-1131.

The Payroll Office will close at 2 p.m. Dec. 24 and will reopen at 7:30 a.m. Jan. 2.

The Peace Corps office (located in the International Center) will be closed Dec. 11-Jan. 8.

The Parking Services office will close at 2:30 p.m. Tues. (Dec. 16) for a holiday celebration. During the holiday break, the office will be closed Dec. 24-Jan. 4. Regular business hours will resume at 7:30 a.m. Jan. 5. Enforcement for color-coded permits and meter fees will be suspended Dec. 24-Jan. 4.

Photo Services will be closed Dec. 24-Jan. 4.

Plant Building Services will close for the holiday season at 8 p.m. Dec. 23 and will reopen at 7:30 a.m. Jan. 5. Limited services will be available on Dec. 26, 29, 30 and 31 and Jan. 2 for those buildings remaining open for special functions, or where a large number of staff or students remain to work and study during the holiday season. Emergency services will be available at all times Dec. 23-Jan. 5. All emergency requests should go through the Department of Public Safety, 763-1131.

Property Disposition will be closing Dec. 23 and will reopen Jan. 5 with the following new hours: noon-5:55 p.m. Mon., noon-3:55 p.m. Tues.-Thurs., 8-11:55 a.m. Fri., closed Sat.-Sun.

Student Financial Operations (Student Accounts Office) will be closed at 2 p.m. today (Dec. 10) for the Christmas luncheon. It will reopen at 10 a.m. Dec. 11. At 1:30 p.m. Dec. 11, the office will again close for the VP holiday reception and will reopen at 8 a.m. Dec. 12. The office will close for the holidays at 2 p.m. Dec. 24 and will reopen 8:30 a.m.-5:30 p.m. Jan. 2 for in-person service only.
