D’Alecy, Loveland-Cherry to head SACUA
Louis G. D’Alecy, professor of physiology in the departments of Physiology and Surgery, will be chair of the Senate Advisory Committee on University Affairs (SACUA) beginning May 1. Carol Loveland-Cherry, associate professor of nursing, will serve as vicechair.
D’Alecy and Loveland-Cherry say that important issues facing faculty governance include the effective integration of technology for teaching, operations and research, the implementation and evaluation of Value Centered Management (VCM), and the changes in the University’s leadership.
“VCM raises a number of concerns regarding preservation of the integrity of educational offerings, articulation with external funding, and maintenance of collaborative, interdisciplinary educational and research programs,” Loveland-Cherry said. “Through a strong governance structure, faculty can participate in the formation of processes and structures to assure quality within a VCM environment.”
D’Alecy joined the U-M in 1973. He is a member of the AmericanHeart Association, the Michigan Society for Medical Research, and the International Society for Cerebral Blood Flow and Metabolism. He is a fellow of the Cardiovascular Section of the American Physiological Society.
His service has included the Academic Affairs Council of the Medical School; Senate Assembly, including serving as vice-chair of SACUA; and the Medical School’s Curriculum Policy Committee.
Loveland-Cherry joined the faculty in 1984. In addition to serving as director of the School of Nursing’s Division of Health Promotion and Risk Reduction Programs, she was an administrative fellow for the committee on Institutional Cooperation, and is a member of the U-M Substance Abuse Research Center Executive Committee and the Financial Affairs Advisory Committee.
