CSRC closed; now where can you take your computer for repair?

The Information Technology Division’s (ITD) Computer Service and Repair Center, which has provided computer repairs for the University community for the past eight years, closed, as expected, on Aug. 23.

To ensure that faculty, staff, students and departments will continue to have reliable and competitively priced repair services available, ITD and University Purchasing have established preferred vendor relationships with BPI Information Systems and the Learning Center Ltd. Both companies have been evaluated and have agreed to provide reliable service with reasonable turnaround times and to charge specific rates. Their performance will be evaluated on a quarterly basis.

BPI Information Systems specializes in repairs on Compaq, IBM, Zenith and other Intel-based computers and Hewlett-Packard and LexMark laser printers. The Learning Center specializes in Apple products and select Hewlett-Packard laser printers.

Warranty repairs on some equipment sold through the U-M Computer Sales Program, such as Dell Computers and Hewlett-Packard ink-jet printers, are provided through the manufacturer. Telephone numbers were included with documentation at time of sale.

Feedback on the performance of the companies may be sent by e-mail to [email protected].

Information on prices and specific services is available on the WorldWide Web at http://www.itd.umich.edu/help/repair.html. Literature on the services also is available at the Computer Showcase on the lower level of the Union.
