Course helps managers assess their roles

In any organization that undertakes quality improvement successfully, unit managers or department heads play a central role by establishing and supporting a work environment that allows staff to see clearly the goals of the organization, and to use resources both individually and in teams in the best way possible to accomplish those goals.

At the same time, experience in other organizations indicates that culture changes in organizations may be most demanding for these very individuals—the unit-level managers.

A new M-Quality course is offered this fall that is designed to assist managers and supervisors as they fulfill their important roles in a changing workplace. M-Quality Managers’ Application provides a forum for managers to discuss “the expectations of managers in a quality-oriented environment.”

The course has been piloted with several groups and is now available for groups of managers from a single unit, or for individual managers.

Every effort is being made to organize forum groups along lines of similar responsibiltiy/similar level/similar departments, so that the discussions can focus directly on the needs and realities of specific positions.

Details about Managers’ Application groups are on page 9 in the fall 1993 HRD Catalog.
