Command officers vote to start new union

The U-M public safety and security commanding officers have elected to form a new union. The 27-9 vote was counted on Oct. 31 in support of the union.

The Command Officers Association of Michigan will represent about 55 members in command and supervisory roles in the Division of Public Safety and Security and on regional campuses.

The Police Officers Association of Michigan currently represents non-command officers and other security staff at the university. This vote approves the establishment of a new and separate bargaining unit.

A date for the start of collective bargaining has not yet been set.
