Column part of campus lore
The neo-Corinthian column by Lorch Hall is the subject of campus rumor as well as legend. While undergraduates are told that it is the sole remnant of a Greek civilization that once thrived on Central Campus, University Planner Fred Mayer maintains it was a relic of architecture Dean Emil Lorch’s scavenging materials for his classes to study that was simply too heavy to move when the School of Architecture moved to North Campus.
