From the Nichols Arboretum

Through June 18, the Arboretum will present “A Celebration of a Cherished Landscape,” welcoming spring and summer through art, lectures, tours and special gift items. Individuals are invited to visit the peony garden, located outside the James D. Reader Jr. Urban Environmental Education Center, where more than 780 herbaceous peonies are blooming. The Appalachian Glen, next to the peony garden, features azaleas and rhododendron from the Julie Norris Post Appalachian Collection.

Arbfest events include:

Docent-led Riverside Walk, 1 p.m. June 10 and June 17, Reader Center.

Restoration Workday, 9 a.m.–noon June 10, west end of Dow Prairie. Volunteers can learn about ecological restoration.

Celebration of ASLA Medallion Award, 3 p.m. June 10, Peony Garden, Reader Center. The Nichols Arboretum has received a centennial medallion from the American Society of Landscape Architects (ASLA), designating the area as a national landmark for outstanding landscape architecture. The public is invited to celebrate the award.

Docent-led Walk/Special Places in the Arb, 1 p.m. June 11, Reader Center.

Docent-led Walk/Living Fossils, 1 p.m. June 18, Reader Center.
