An enhanced moped parking program provides 25 new spots in 11 locations throughout the four Ann Arbor campuses.

The program is a collaboration between Architecture, Engineering & Construction, Parking & Transportation Services (PTS), the Department of Public Safety (DPS) and the University Planner’s Office.
“The objective is to provide expanded capacity on all Ann Arbor campuses, to better distinguish the moped (from bicycle and motorcycle) parking and to designate safe parking with specific signage,” says Dave Miller, PTS executive director.
DPS will enforce moped parking, Miller says.
Rising gas prices have increased interest in using mopeds as alternative transportation, Miller says. Use of mopeds, which fall into a category of low-powered motorized vehicles 50cc or under, is one of several potential answers.
The University will follow State of Michigan and City of Ann Arbor regulations regarding the definition of mopeds and limit parking in these new locations to those motorized vehicles 50cc or under.
Riders can look for the “Moped Parking” signs in the new areas and for “Moped Only” decals on bike loops designated for mopeds. For safety reasons riders need to walk their mopeds from the street to the bike loops. Bicycles are not to be parked at the decaled loops.
The University has added moped parking in the following locations:
North Campus — six new spaces
NC20 Lot, at GG Brown Laboratory — two bike loops at the east end of the existing motorcycle parking area
NC43 Lot, at Art & Architecture building — four bike loops in existing motorcycle parking area in southeast corner of lot
Medical Campus — five new spaces
M30 Lot, in Oversize Vehicle Lot across from the Taubman Center on East Medical Center Drive — three bike loops in existing motorcycle parking area in west end of the lot
