Pollack encourages survey participation
The administration is hosting a survey to enable faculty, fellows and graduate students from across campus to provide written feedback to the President’s Advisory Panel on the Biosciences. President Mark Schlissel has charged the panel with developing a recommended strategy that will propel the University of Michigan to the forefront in critical areas of life science research by optimally leveraging our comprehensive excellence. Dentistry faculty lead nation in Journal of Dental Education articles
The School of Dentistry topped the nation’s dental schools last year in the number of articles that were published in academic dentistry’s premier publication, the Journal of Dental Education. Ten articles were authored and co-authored by a total of 31 U-M faculty, residents, dental students and staff. The Journal of Dental Education, a peer-reviewed monthly journal of the American Dental Education Association, has published the results of educational and scientific research in dental, allied dental, and advanced dental education since 1936.
U-M Detroit Center hosts fifth annual Opening Day Open House
The University of Michigan Detroit Center will host its fifth annual Opening Day Open House from 10 a.m.-4 p.m. April 6. This annual celebration is an opportunity for the U-M and Detroit communities to connect on an unofficial holiday, Opening Day of the Detroit Tigers. Guests enjoy ballpark food and the game on TV, and are encouraged to tour the facility and learn about the outreach activities and cultural events occurring at the Detroit Center. Access restrictions, office moves planned for next phase of SEB renovation
During the next major phase of the School of Education building renovation May 1-Aug. 31, access to several north hallways and offices will be restricted, and many faculty and staff offices will be relocated. However, office phone numbers will not change. Among changes, the dean’s office staff will relocate to the 3010 suite and deans will relocate to Rooms 3001-3003. Spirited Michigan Law auction raises money for fellowships
More than $58,000 was raised March 19 for Michigan Law students who plan to work at public-interest jobs during the summer, through a popular annual auction event. Donations through live and silent auctions totaled $45,000, and $13,500 in matching donations were pledged by the Wein-Hirshon Charitable Foundation. Event highlights included a surprise auction of the autographs of all nine Supreme Court justices who decided Brown v. Board of Education, an esteemed bankruptcy-law expert offering a karaoke performance of “Sweet Caroline” and a law professor smashing six cement blocks with his bare hand.
