Fourth annual youth theatre camp returns to Detroit Center

Returning for its fourth consecutive year, the Detroit Center, in partnership with Plowshares Theatre Company, presents Youth Theatre Fellows, a residential youth theatre summer camp June 21-27. This opportunity is open to youth in grades eight-12 to immerse themselves in the world of theatre. This one-week intensive program features workshops with academic and professional theatre artists, a tour of Department of Theatre & Drama facilities in Ann Arbor and two field trips to cultural institutions, including the Stratford Festival and a tour of one of the city’s famed historic theatres. University Record publishing schedule

The University Record will not publish a printed edition March 2 due to spring break. Weekly publication will resume March 9. The University Record’s morning email will not be sent the week of March 2-6, although major news items may be posted to the Record website. The email will resume March 9.

Free NextProf Science Workshop deadline is Feb. 28

NextProf Science is an expenses-paid workshop aimed at future science faculty — talented current senior graduate students and postdoctoral trainees. It aims to bring people with a commitment to diversity to the U-M campus to demonstrate the benefits and rewards of an academic career, to make connections with U-M faculty and academic leaders, and to network with other participants. The NextProf Science 2015 Workshop May 26-29 is free to participants selected to attend through the application process, which closes Feb. 28. Travel within the United States, lodging and meals are provided for attendees. Participants will learn how the faculty search process works, how to build successful research programs, and how to form a teaching and mentoring philosophy. U-M joins competency-based education network

Through its Masters in Health Professions Education program, U-M joins the Competency-Based Education Network. It is a national network devoted to competency-based education. Through the MHPE program, each learner is paired with a mentor who guides and assesses evidence from his or her professional practice to demonstrate proficiency in 12 competencies. MHPE learners are practicing health professionals currently engaged in or preparing for educator roles. With the support of faculty, learners develop and execute customized learning plans. The MHPE program currently includes 14 learners and 19 faculty members.
