Board for Student Publications seeks new members

The U-M Board for Student Publications is recruiting new members for three-year terms beginning in April. The applications deadline is Feb. 11. The board is responsible for The Michigan Daily, the Michiganensian yearbook, the Gargoyle and SHEI Magazine. All interested persons are encouraged to apply. Because the board is committed to realizing diversity’s benefits, it is particularly interested in recruiting U-M faculty, staff and students, or the general public who are from underrepresented groups, and who have experience and expertise in journalism, law, finance or fundraising. Join Face Off Blood Challenge to save lives

The Face Off Blood Challenge through Feb. 20 with Michigan State University extends the rivalry beyond the ice, to save lives. Make an appointment to donate on the American Red Cross website, www.redcrossblood.org, using the sponsor code goblue. There, one can view drives in the Ann Arbor area. Campus donation locations are at tinyurl.com/lfug9ya. The Red Cross will present donors a Face Off T-shirt while supplies last, and a coupon for buy one, get one free milkshakes from Pizza House. Item donations sought for Rotating Shelter program

The U-M Detroit Center is seeking donations to help the Inter-Faith Homeless Rotating Shelter program by providing personal hygiene kits for those finding it difficult to make ends meet. Items sought for the kits include plastic forks and spoons, paper towels, socks, winter gloves, combs, brushes and more. Items can be dropped off at the U-M Detroit Center. 2014-14 Power, Dumas Award winners ceremony Feb. 11

A ceremony is scheduled for 4 p.m. Feb. 11 in the Michigan League Hussey Room, to announce the winners of the 2014-15 Sarah Goddard Power Award, the 2014-15 Sarah Goddard Power Honorary Award, and the Rhetaugh G. Dumas Award Progress in Diversifying Award. The Power Award winners are: Dr. Carol Rossier Bradford, professor and chair of otolaryngology and co-director of the Head and Neck Oncology Program; Lilia M. Cortina, associate professor of psychology and women’s studies, and director of graduate studies for Women’s Studies, LSA; and Dr. Dee E. Fenner, Harold A. Furlong Professor of Women’s Health, and director of gynecology, Department of Obstetrics and Gynecology. The Power Honorary Award winner is Ann Evans Larimore, professor emerita of geography and women’s studies, Residential College, LSA. The Dumas Award will go to the Department of Communication Studies.
