UM-Flint opens new Intercultural Center

The UM-Flint has a new Intercultural Center in the former Ontario Room in the University Center. It is under the direction of the Department of Student Involvement and Leadership. It was established in response to a request from various cultural student organizations including the Black Student Union, PRIDE, the African Student Association and Native American Student Association, among others. It will foster cross cultural and identity dialogues, self-reflection and leadership development, while also providing opportunities for cultural celebrations and understanding.

Skating, hockey back at Yost

Hockey and skating have returned to Yost Ice Arena, with daily public skates and a variety of hockey related sessions. Those who look to work on stick-handling skills or want a little competition can attend Sticks-n-Pucks Wednesdays at 1 p.m. or Drop-in Thursdays at 10 a.m. Those seeking more instruction can join the Adult Hockey Clinic Fridays at 6 a.m. or sign up for the Adult Learn to Skate program Wednesdays at 11 a.m. For more information on these programs and theme skates go to yost.umich.edu or download the mobile app keyword Yost Ice Arena.

Blood Battle with OSU returns

This month marks the 33rd annual Blood Battle between U-M and Ohio State University. This competition is sponsored by the American Red Cross and Blood Drives United, a student organization. The competition extends the athletic rivalry beyond the gridiron as students, staff and community members donate blood to save lives. More than 30 blood drive locations around the U-M campus are scheduled, beginning today and ending Nov. 26. Go to redcrossblood.org or wolverinesforlife.org to register. Use the sponsor code goblue.

Sarah Goddard Power Award nominations sought

Nominations are sought for the 2015 Academic Women’s Caucus Sarah Goddard Power Award. The deadline is Nov. 26. To qualify, a candidate should have made significant contributions to the development of the status of women at U-M in addition to demonstrating exceptional leadership, notable scholarship or significant professional accomplishments. Rhetaugh G. Dumas Award nominations sought

The Academic Women’s Caucus invites nominations for the 2014 Rhetaugh G. Dumas Progress in Diversifying Award. The deadline is Nov. 26. The award recognizes outstanding institutional initiative in demonstrating notable progress by academic units in achieving ethnic/racial and gender diversity in the professor, clinical professor, research professor and research scientist faculty ladders/tracks.
