UM-Flint wins grant to help veterans enter nursing
A new University of Michigan-Flint nursing program to bring more military veterans into the nursing profession is being funded by a $1 million grant over three years from the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services’ Nurse Education, Practice Quality and Retention Program. The program is called Veterans Serving Veterans: the University of Michigan-Flint’s Accelerated Bachelor of Science in Nursing Program for Veterans. It is designed to reduce transition and matriculation barriers. The grant will create an accelerated career ladder option that builds on veterans’ prior military training while ensuring that they complete the curricular requirements for the Bachelor of Science in Nursing degree and are prepared to pass the registered nurse licensure exam.
August closings scheduled for Thompson parking structure
A project to repair the Thompson Street Parking Structure roof deck and to install roof deck coating continues Aug. 11-20 with Phase 3. It involves closing Levels 7 and 8, approximately 145 spaces, for joint and cove sealant work. Phase 4 work is scheduled for Aug. 21-29 on the same levels with deck coating application and striping. The structure typically has approximately 100 vacant spaces during the academic year and more during summer months, so there may be sufficient capacity during the space closures. Drivers can consider the Athletic and South Campus orange commuter lots (SC6 and 7) and taking the U-M Commuter bus to and from Central Campus.
