Register kids now for Camp Explorations

Registration is open for the Museum of Natural History’s summer Camp Explorations program for ages 6-12, celebrating its 17th year. Programs include daily experiments, hands-on activities, related games, journaling and plenty of fun. The museum offers eight sessions and each is a new experience. Topics include archaeology, paleontology, astronomy and forensic science. Mix and match morning and afternoon sessions with U-M KidSport and Outdoor Adventures programs. Regents meeting June 19

The Board of Regents will have its monthly meeting at 3 p.m. June 19 in the Anderson Room, Michigan Union. To offer public comment at the meeting, sign up in advance at www.regents.umich.edu/meetings/publform.html. Public comments on agenda items will be taken prior to their consideration. Comments on nonagenda items will follow the regular business agenda. Applications for grant from TCF Bank due

Units have until July 2 to submit applications for a grant from TCF Bank to assist low or moderate income families or individuals in need. Low income is defined as having an income of less than 80 percent (or $69,040) of the median income in Washtenaw County. A total of $50,000 is available for distribution through the grant to units that provide assistance to low or moderate income families. East Quad Dining wins national acclaim

The National Association of College and University Food Services has recognized East Quad Dining with its most prestigious award, the Gold honor for the 2014 Loyal E. Horton Dining Awards. Evaluated for menu, nutrition and wellness, presentation, marketing and operational standards, East Quad Dining’s distinctive feature is its seven micro-restaurants, each dedicated to a single cooking style.

Applications sought for Innovation in Depression Treatment award

The University of Michigan Depression Center is offering funds to foster innovative ideas for treatment or self-management of depression, through the $10,000 Phil Jenkins Award for Innovation in Depression Treatment. Funds will be awarded to one or more applicants for a one-year period, for ideas to improve the quality of life for people living with depressive illnesses and their families, and to develop innovative strategies to sustain wellness. Applications are being accepted from U-M graduate students, residents, post-doctoral fellows or junior faculty. The applicant must either be a member of the Depression Center or identify one of its faculty or staff who will serve as an adviser or collaborator. Michigan Radio wins 10 Michigan Associated Press awards

The Michigan Associated Press recently honored Michigan Radio with seven first-place awards and three second-place awards in the large market radio category. The first-place awards were in the categories Best Spot News for “Detroit Bankruptcy,” news staff; Best News Documentary for “Unequal by Law,” Lester Graham; Best Feature Story for “WWII Veterans,” Lindsey Smith; Best Website, www.michiganradio.org, Mark Brush; Best Spot Photojournalism for “Grand Rapids Flooding,” Lindsey Smith; Best Individual Reporting, Sarah Hulett; and Best Individual Photojournalism, Steve Carmody. Second Place awards were: Best Natural Sound for “Grand River,” Lindsey Smith; Best Individual Photojournalism, Lindsey Smith; and General Excellence, Michigan Radio. Michigan Radio also earned two regional Edward R. Murrow awards presented by The Radio Television Digital News Association.
