Dental students provide free services to children

Dental and dental hygiene students and faculty from the School of Dentistry will provide free oral health care services to children ages 5-14 April 5. The annual event was rescheduled from February due to inclement weather. It is offered from 9 a.m.-2 p.m. on the second floor of the School of Dentistry, 1011 N. University Ave. Registration begins at 8:30 a.m. Appointments are not necessary. Children must be registered by a parent or guardian, and are seen on a first-come, first-served basis. Registration will close after the first 100 patients sign in. Supervised by faculty, students will provide teeth cleanings, sealants, X-rays, and simple fillings. Free parking will be available on the upper level of the Fletcher Street parking structure adjacent to the School of Dentistry. Regents meeting March 20

The Board of Regents will have its monthly meeting at 3 p.m. March 20 in the Anderson Room, Michigan Union. To offer public comment at the meeting, sign up in advance at www.regents.umich.edu/meetings/publform.html. Public comments on agenda items will be taken prior to their consideration. Comments on nonagenda items will follow the regular business agenda. Education and support programs offered

The Faculty and Staff Assistance Program is offering free educational and support programs for staff and faculty. FASAP can also come to individual units and conduct 45-minute brown bag presentations on emotional health topics. Managing Anger is a four-part series opening from 11:30 a.m.-12:45 p.m. March 24. The Dealing with Divorce and Break-Up Support Group opens from 11:30 a.m.-12:45 p.m. April 21. Both groups meet at the Administrative Services Building, 1009 Greene St. Contact Tina at 734-936-8660 to register. The Drop In Caregivers Support Group-Who is Caring for the Caregivers? Is for those caring for an aging parent, disabled partner, or special needs family member. It meets from 11:45 a.m.-1 p.m. the second Tuesday of each month in the Michigan Union. Gifts of Art accepting proposals

The U-M Health System’s Gifts of Art program is accepting proposals for the August 2014-August 2015 exhibition year. One of the first and most comprehensive arts in healthcare programs nationwide, Gifts of Art brings art and music to nine UMHS galleries displaying more than 50 exhibits a year. Organizers seek both solo exhibits by individual artists and group exhibits by arts organizations. Selections are made from online submissions or submissions by mail. Emailed jpeg images or in-person submissions are not considered. Guidelines for submissions made online or by mail are available at www.med.umich.edu/goa/submissions.htm. Brochures also are available at Gifts of Art gallery locations and the Gifts of Art office in the North Ingalls building. Submission deadline is May 15.

U-M is co-organizer of high-altitude balloon challenge

More than 60 teams from around the world will launch high-altitude balloons into the upper atmosphere April 18-21 in The Global Space Balloon Challenge, organized by graduate students at the University of Michigan, Stanford University and the Massachusetts Institute of Technology. While judges will award prizes in several categories, the mission is to get young people involved in hands-on science, technology, engineering and math projects. High-altitude balloons provide low-cost, low-risk opportunities to test and develop the next generation of space exploration technology, organizers say.
