UMMA to stay open late on select Fridays

The U-M Museum of Art has partnered with Comerica Bank to offer UMMA Fridays After 5 on four Fridays: Nov. 8, Feb. 21, April 25 and July 18. UMMA’s doors will remain open until 8 p.m. to allow faculty, staff, students and the community to explore galleries and exhibitions. Admission to UMMA is free.

Office of Campus Sustainability wins award

The Office of Campus Sustainability has been recognized by the Michigan Department of Environmental Quality. OCS received the Michigan Green Chemistry Governor’s Award in the education category for its Sustainable Lab Certification Program. It promotes sustainable operations including pollution prevention, waste minimization, green purchasing, recycling, green chemistry, treatment and disposal. Benefits include reduction in the use and generation of hazardous materials, reduced energy and utilities consumption and improved safety.

MiSo House attracts record number of visitors

The Michigan Solar House at the Matthaei Botanical Gardens welcomed more than 2,000 visitors this past year, a 43-percent increase in attendance and the highest in its eight-year history. The 660-square foot, solar-powered home is open to the public. It was designed and built by an interdisciplinary team of architecture students and faculty from Taubman College of Architecture and Urban Planning.
