Just over midway through its allotted time, the Campaign for Michigan has garnered $680 million—68 percent of its $1 billion goal. The Campaign was announced in 1990 and is scheduled to conclude in 1997.
These figures were announced to a group of contributors at a Campaign celebration event held Sept. 23.
Of the $1 billion goal, the University seeks $850 million in gifts and pledges and $150 million in new bequests. As of Sept. 30, the University had received nearly $567.4 million (66.8 percent of goal) in gifts and pledges, and new bequests totaled slightly more than $112.6 million (75.1 percent of goal).
Among the Campaign priorities, endowment gifts for faculty support (professorships, visiting professorships, research professorships, assistant professorships and collegiate professorships) now total $44.6 million, 23.5 percent of the $190 million goal. Endowment gifts for student aid stand at $54 million, 43.2 percent of $125 million goal.
Fundraising for facilities has reached 67.3 percent of a $100 million goal, with $67.3 million in contributions.
The Campaign has five priorities for facilities funding: Center for Undergraduate Education, School of Social Work, Medical Center facilities, athletic facilities, engineering facilities and Hill Auditorium. Taken together, gifts for these facilities total nearly $20.2 million, 20.3 percent of goal.
Gifts for other facilities—Thompson Library, Francois-Xavier Bagnoud Building, Dearborn Campus and R.H. Lurie Fund—total $47. million.
