Bob Kalmbach, photographer at the University for 45 years, officially retires today (July 17). During his long career at the U-M, Kalmbach visually documented visits from politicians and presidents, writers and artists, and the daily events that tell the tale of the University. His photographs have been featured locally and nationally in such diverse publications as The University Record and National Geographic magazine. In a resolution honoring his tenure at the U-M, the Regents said ‘he understands Michigan in ways few of us do.’
‘Bob’s love of people and for Michigan is evident in the thousands of photographs he has taken as the University’s official photographer, from class reunions and athletic contests to portraits of renowned scholars and performers, American presidents and royalty.’
Known for his sense of humor and gracious manner, Bob leaves the University a rich tapestry of photographic history that captures all of the moments that make the University of Michigan unique.
