The University of Michigan Board of Regents will meet in a special virtual session at 9:30 a.m. April 2, to address recent events. The virtual meeting is consistent with Gov. Gretchen Whitmer’s executive directive regarding public meetings during the COVID-19 pandemic.
There will be no public comments at this special meeting. The public will be able to listen to the meeting by clicking on a link from the main U-M website at the meeting’s scheduled time, or by going to umich.edu/watch/.

As a result of Ron Weiser’s recent comments about the Governor, he should be removed from the Board of Regents immediately!
Those types of comments CANNOT be associated with our University. As an Alum, I am embarrassed that this type of comment came from a leader of my university.

I am reluctant to overturn the will of the people in having elected Mr. Weiser. But somehow we need to hold any public official to account if they speak even jokingly of assassinating others, since in these times their words can clearly lead to action by followers. Freedom of speech is our right, but the Supreme Court said it does not extend to speech “likely to incite imminent lawless action.”
