The Office of Student Life is partnering with Michigan Athletics to offer a limited number of first-year students the opportunity to score a ticket to watch a live screening of a Michigan basketball game from inside Michigan Stadium.
The free event will allow first-year students living on or off campus the chance to win one ticket, randomly selected, for either the U-M men’s or women’s basketball game. Eligible students were emailed details with a link to sign up for the lottery.
A maximum of 1,000 seats per game will be available, as both teams play in the Sweet 16 of the NCAA tournaments at the following times:
- U-M women’s basketball vs. Baylor March 27 at 3 p.m.
- U-M men’s basketball vs. Florida State March 28 at 5 p.m.
“This is a great opportunity for our students to engage in the Wolverine culture here at Michigan, while supporting their peers,” says Martino Harmon, vice president for student life. “Our students have had a long tough year and we look forward to providing safe opportunities like this as a chance for our students to embrace the Michigan experience.”
A state health order permits outdoor stadiums to allow no more than 1,000 patrons to gather without an infection-control plan. This is separate from the state-mandated public health guidelines being followed for the May 1 event at Michigan Stadium, which allows graduates to gather together for the virtual Spring Commencement ceremony.
To help keep the U-M community safe, seats will be assigned to students in pairs upon entry and will be spaced out by 6 feet in surrounding directions. Students will be required to complete and show their green check mark on the ResponsiBLUE app and wear a face covering at all times, consistent with U-M policy.
If either of the teams advance further in the NCAA tournament, additional U-M students will be invited to participate in the lottery to win one of the 1,000 seats available per game to cheer on the Wolverines from Michigan Stadium:
- Sweet 16 — First-year students invited to participate in the lottery.
- Elite Eight — Senior students invited to participate in the lottery.
- Final Four — All students, including graduate and professional students invited to participate in the lottery.
- NCAA championship game — All students, including graduate and professional students invited to participate in the lottery.
Students attending the outdoor watch event will receive a bottle of water, snacks and giveaways. No food or beverages will be sold in the stadium. For the best experience, participants should plan appropriately and dress for the weather.
The event will be staffed by Athletics and Student Life volunteers to assist with the entry check-in process and crowd support.
