Barth to give Fauri Lecture Dec. 11

Child welfare expert Richard P. Barth will deliver the annual Fedele F. Fauri and Iris M. Fauri Memorial Lecture Series on Child Welfare at 4:30 p.m. Dec. 11 at the Michigan League’s Vandenberg Room.
Barth, professor of social welfare at the University of California, Berkeley, will discuss “What Is the Goal of Child Welfare Services: Permanency or Self-Sufficiency?”
Barth, who has written several books on child welfare, is co-director of the Family Welfare Research Group, co-principal investigator of Berkeley’s National Child Welfare Research Center and principal investigator of the National Abandoned Infants Assistance Resource Center.
He received his doctorate and master’s degrees from Berkeley and a bachelor’s from Brown University.
The lecture is named in memory of Fedele Fauri, former vice president and dean of social work, and his wife, Iris. Fedele Fauri held various state and federal government positions in social welfare, including serving as Social Security adviser to President John F. Kennedy, the U.S. House of Representatives and Senate.
