“At 8 o’clock or thereabouts Sgt. Reynolds came in with the news that Germany had signed the Armistice at 7 o’clock. There was a big lot of celebrating going on outside so we celebrated (with) a couple bottles of wine and some cigars. Sgt. Muskatt returned about midnight with some fresh rations for us.” — Nov. 1918 entry to daily log kept by Gus Reynolds and Howard D. “Tubber” Tubbs, on behalf of the 36-member U.S. Army Ambulance Corps Section 90. The unit was stationed in France during World War I and made up mostly of University of Michigan undergraduates.
