The Office of the Vice Provost for Engaged Learning has announced the 2023 Engage Detroit Workshops grant program, designed to support a new workshop or speaker series on a topic that connects U-M with Detroit communities.
Now in its second year the program is designed to foster endeavors that bring together students, faculty, staff and Detroiters to discuss topics of common interest. The Engage Detroit Workshops program strives to enhance connections and collaborations that build on the rich history of partnerships between U-M and the city.

The Vice Provost for Engaged Learning will provide up to $15,000 per awarded workshop or speaker series proposal. Interested applicants will be asked to identify a theme for their proposed event or events that is relevant to Detroit constituencies. Ideas should be submitted by April 28.
“Our pilot program from last year has shown to be very successful, with several participants asking that we continue to promote interdisciplinary and community-connected initiatives with Detroit,” said Valeria Bertacco, vice provost for engaged learning.
“Engaged partnerships with any community take time to ensure the projects are grounded in equity and recognition for the expertise and resources within the community. The creative and impactful events will promote cohesiveness and collaboration among our institution’s community-engaged efforts.”
Eligible applicant teams should comprise groups of up to three faculty and staff members affiliated with an academic unit on the Ann Arbor, Dearborn or Flint campus, and who are currently involved in community-engaged work in Detroit. Interdisciplinary teams and proposals that involve students and community partners are encouraged to apply.
