Advance notice necessary for units that need holiday deliveries, services

Ventilation will be reduced over holidays

Ventilation in most campus buildings will be reduced during the holidays to save energy. Those whose areas will be fully staffed during the Dec. 24-Jan. 2 period should contact the Utilities Department with work schedules by Dec. 6 so that maximum ventilation can be maintained during the holidays.

Animal research and other critical facilities that normally require 24-hour-per-day ventilation will not undergo reductions during this period.

“With VCM now in place, this is one of your greatest opportunities to reduce your utilities expenditures. We can help you with custom schedules that provide periodic ventilation and still reduce your energy consumption,” says David Anderson, energy management coordinator.

Fax requests and information on staffing schedules to Anderson at 647-0967, or send e-mail to [email protected]. For information, call 647-0962.

OSEH will make limited deliveries, pickups

The Department of Occupational Safety and Environmental Health (OSEH) reminds staff who work with radioactive materials or chemical compounds that if they plan to work over the December holiday break, they should be sure to have a sufficient supply of containers and other waste-handling materials to accommodate that workload. Also, approval for radioactive material orders must be obtained prior to Dec. 23.

Radioactive and chemical waste materials will be picked up Dec. 23 and Dec. 24, but only radioactive waste will be picked up on Jan. 3. The regular schedule will be effective Jan. 6.

OSEH will be closed 4:30 p.m. Dec. 24 and reopen 7:30 a.m. Jan. 2. Emergency service will be available through the Department of Public Safety, 763-1131, during those days.
