Administrative appointments at Flint announced

Virginia Allen has assumed duties as vice chancellor for student services and enrollment management at the U-M-Flint. She previously was assistant vice president of academic affairs at Oakland University.

Allen holds at doctorate in higher education and a master’s in guidance and counseling from Wayne State University. She is active in the American Association of Counseling and Development and the American Association of Higher Education. She has presented on such topics as educational preparation, leadership and academic advising for retention.

Also joining Flint’s administrative staff are:

Tendaji Ganges, executive director of education opportunity initiatives. He will direct the office formerly known as executive assistant to the chancellor for multicultural initiatives, including coordination of Flint’s efforts to enhance minority student enrollment and retention. Ganges was director of the Office of Educational Services and Programs at Northern Illinois University, and has held similar positions at Chicago State University, Northwestern University and Earlham College.

Mark Delorey, director of financial aid. He joined U-M-Flint after serving in a similar capacity at GMI. He holds an M.B.A. with a background in financial aid and student retention issues and is active on the national level in financial aid associations.

William Schanerberger, instructional technology services software manager and acting director. He brings 18 years of computer-related experience to Flint, most recently with the Environmental Research Institute of Michigan, and in his manager post is responsible for ensuring successful implementation of the new student software Banner.

Three faculty members have been appointed to interim positions while national searches are under way to fill them on a permanent basis.

Mathematics Prof. Lawrence Kugler, also a former interim chancellor, is interim provost, succeeding Victor Wong who has moved to the Ann Arbor campus.

Biology Prof. Kathleen Lavoie is interim dean of the College of Arts and Sciences, succeeding Jacqueline Zeff, who has returned to teaching in the English Department.

Rodney McGraw is interim dean of the School of Management, succeeding Steve Hallam.
