Achenbaum to deliver Winkelman Lecture

W. Andrew Achenbaum, deputy director of the Institute of Gerontology, will discuss “Social Security: Yesterday, Today and Tomorrow” at the Leon and Josephine Winkelman Lecture at 4 p.m. March 12 in the Michigan Union’s Pendleton Room.

Achenbaum, professor of history and an expert on aging, was a contributor to the 1995 White House Conference on Aging and served as technical adviser to the 1987 conference. His recent publications include Social Security: The Early Years and Two Ways of Understanding Inner Paths in Later Years .

Sponsored by the School of Social Work, the annual free, public Winkelman Lecture provides a forum for new and emerging knowledge in the social sciences and helping professions, and for the discussion of the application of such knowledge to the development of social policy, organization and management of social welfare services, and delivery of social work services.
