Maya Hammoud, professor of obstetrics and gynecology, and learning health sciences, Medical School, recently became the 52nd president of the Association of Professors of Gynecology and Obstetrics, the leading national medical education organization among academic obstetrician-gynecologists. Hammoud has been actively involved in the association for the past 15 years and has held many leadership roles, including chair of the association’s Undergraduate Medical Education Committee, chair of the Electronic Resources Committee and chair of the Testing and Technology Committee.
Joshua D. Stein, Edward T. and Ellen K. Dryer Career Development Professor of Ophthalmology and Visual Sciences, Medical School, has received the 2018 Pisart Award from Lighthouse Guild. The Pisart Award recognizes an early career vision clinician or scientist whose noteworthy, innovative and scholarly contributions in vision science have the potential for substantial influence in the understanding of vision loss, treatment of eye disease or the rehabilitation of people with vision loss. Lighthouse Guild is a New York-based not-for-profit healthcare organization dedicated to addressing and preventing vision loss through coordination vision and health services. Stein is also an associate professor of ophthalmology and visual sciences, Medical School, and associate professor of health management and policy, School of Public Health.
James Duderstadt, president emeritus and University Professor of Science and Engineering, recently received the Dr. John Hope Franklin Award at the national meeting of the American Council of Education. The namesake of the award, Franklin, was a historian, writer, educator and humanitarian who demonstrated a high standard of excellence, leadership and service in higher education. The award was presented by Diverse: Issues in Higher Education.
