Anne Ruggles Gere has been elected second vice president of the Modern Languages Association, putting her on track to become the association’s president in 2018. She is an Arthur F. Thurnau Professor, Gertrude Buck Collegiate Professor of Education, professor of education and director of academic program, School of Education; and professor of English language and literature, LSA. She has served as president of the National Council of Teachers of English, as chair of the Conference on College Composition and Communication, and as a member of the executive council of the Modern Language Association.
Gov. Rick Snyder has appointed R. Charles Dershimer to the 11-member MiSTEM Advisory Council. The group will provide the governor, Legislature and government departments with recommendations to improve and promote innovation and collaboration in STEM education and prepare students for careers in science, technology, engineering and mathematics. Dershimer is a clinical assistant professor in educational studies, School of Education.
Todd D. Sevig, director of Counseling and Psychological Services and psychologist, University of Michigan, has been presented with the 2015 Lifetime Achievement Award by the Association of College Counseling Center Directors (AUCCCD). He is co-chair of the AUCCCD Elements of Excellence Task Force, has been an active presenter at the AUCCCD Annual Conference, has a significant publication record, and serves as a site visitor for the International Association of Counseling Services.
