Awards
Pamela Fowler, executive director of the Office of Financial Aid, was honored at the annual national conference of the National Association of Student Financial Aid Administrators (NASFAA) in July in San Antonio. She received the NASFAA’s Meritorious Achievement Award for her dedication to low-income students, her support for need-based financial aid, and her multiple contributions to and leadership of NASFAA and the financial aid community.
Dr. Matthew Boulton, associate professor of epidemiology, associate dean, School of Public Health, and associate professor of internal medicine, Medical School, recently was presented with an award by the Chinese government for initiating the highly successful China Scholar Exchange between SPH and the Tianjin Centers for Disease Control and for his work in assisting China with infectious disease control efforts.
Karem Sakallah, professor of electrical engineering and computer science, recently was presented the 2009 CAV (Computer-Aided Verification) award at the 21st annual CAV conference in Grenoble, France. The annual award recognizes a fundamental contribution or series of outstanding contributions to the CAV field. It includes a $10,000 prize. Sakallah was among seven honored. The recipients worked in two different teams, one at U-M and one at Princeton University, to create programs for checking whether a logic formula has a consistent solution.
Elected
Nancy McGovern, Institute for Social Research, was inducted as a 2009 Fellow of the Society of American Archivists (SAA) during a recent ceremony in Austin, Texas. The distinction of fellow is the highest honor bestowed by SAA for outstanding contributions to the archival profession. McGovern is the digital preservation officer and research assistant professor for the Inter-University Consortium for Political and Social Research at U-M.
